hopefully. Finally got a tractor dude out here to scrape down the yard and remove the thousands of tiny nails and pieces of the old siding that had been left by hurricane ike. Was pleasantly surprised to find some really nice soil underneath but still had them drop a light layer of really rich organic soil over the whole yard. Now I have a completely clean slate to start this year's gardening effort.

The options are endless. . . so many seeds, so little time! I'm a seed catalogue geek. I admit it. I love looking through all the varieties of potential plant goodness and dreaming of spring veges and fruits. What I'm not sure about is bugs, rather beneficial insects. Since the whole area was soaked in saltwater for a few days I'm pretty sure most, if not all insects were also killed off. I haven't seen any grubs - a good thing but I haven't seen any earthworms either. I may order some worms and give them a happy new home. I suppose I should call the gardening extension and ask if there is anything else I need to do to get the beneficial insects back or if they will come on their own.

okay, gotta go water the yard so the new grass seed can get started. And then it's Vet time for the kitty - her paws are not getting better. And then! gardening time! and oh yeah, work, work, work - it never ends.
