Why I hate this beautiful day so much
Oct. 12th, 2025 07:47 am Four years ago I woke up to a beautiful sunday morning - just like today.
I'll never forget watching the morning news on ABC Channel 13 and seeing the horrible news about a fatal crash in Crosby, the town just north of our hometown. A suspected drunk driver killed two teenagers. I looked at my watch. It was 9:23 am. I gave thanks that it obviously wasn't anyone we knew or we would have already heard the news by now. I left for the day. I went to Lake Charles to Delta Downs for some R&R, to take a break from everything.
While there my phone started going off. I tried to ignore them as I didn't want anyone to know where I was. I left, started heading home and stopped to recharge the car at the slowest car charger in the world. I started driving home and that was when the terrible, horrible news found me. My niece Erika finally got through. My nephew Gavin never came home. He was one of the victim's of that fatal car crash.
The rest of the week was a blur of grief like no other. Lives changed forever. He was only 19. He was so excited about that Halloween party. He had come by to help with one of my three thousand projects I had going on at my Mom's house that morning. And the last time I saw him, he was smiling and telling me about the party he was going to that night. My precious, sweet, lowing baby boy, always smiling.
I was wondering why I was feeling - well, just feeling so much yesterday. I realized b/c it was that Saturday four years ago and today is THAT sunday four years ago. I honestly don't know how or why God wanted us to live without Gavin in our lives, but here we are.
I hope you're playing baseball in heaven. I know you're still smiling. I miss you more than words could ever express. And I hate that I hate this beautiful day so much, but it's only bc/ I love you so much and it will always hurt so much. Until we meet again, dear boy.
